God: The Lover of Mankind: 2 sessions down – 10 to go!

Posted by phillippa00 on January 27, 2009

We were delighted to welcome participants to the second session of THE WAY last Friday! It was another enjoyable and engaging evening, offering much food for thought! Our focus was the nature of God, in particular the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and we further explored the nature of our relationship with God as our creator and sustainer.

Dr Mangela Frost gave the ‘lecture’ on behalf of Father Demetrios Bathrelloswho could not be with us. He sent us his best wishes from Athens where he is based. Professor David Frost and Miss Gladys Bland accompanied her from Cambridge. We were also joined by Father Alexander Teft, who is the ‘chaplain’ to the Institute as well as local clergy – Father John Hookway, Father Demetrianos Melakis and the Father John the resident priest of the our host Community of St Raphael, Nicholas and Irene. When it came to the panel Question and Answer session we were spoilt with such a rich range of experience and insight.

I cannot begin to express how utterly delighted I am that this course has become a reality for our communities in North London. I am overwhelmed with the positive feedback I have received and the number of people who are now participating – we have registered over 50 people now and I am still getting enquiries! It had been so exciting to meet you all, and I look forward to us getting to know one another better in the coming weeks. I do hope that all of you are enjoying the experience and that you will be blessed as a result. I have learnt so much already and I look forward to further ‘food for the journey’ as the weeks go by.

I encourage you all to check out the links on this blog – there is a whole Orthodox world of fellowship and learning out there – much of which can be accessed through the English language. There are regular English liturgies in many parishes including Twelve Apostles who hold one every Saturday at 10am – unless it coincides with a major feast / St Day. If you do find out information via the internet I would recommend telephoning in advance to check the details before travelling!

I look forward to seeing you next week!

What a start!

Posted by MMR on January 17, 2009

Well – “The Way” kicked off last night, and the organisers were suprised at the response, we never expected it to be so ‘cosy’. Fortunately, we hope it will be more comfortable next time with a bit of extra space.

Thanks to everybody who came – especially those brave individuals who made the trek from Colchester and Teddington!

Also, thanks to Professor David Frost and his wife for setting the ball rolling!
There certainly were lots of questions … and we hope to explore them more in the coming weeks.

Most important of all it was great to meet such a wide variety of interesting people and have the opportunity to get to know them better over the coming weeks.

We really enjoyed the evening – and hope that you did too!
